4D gravity on a brane from bulk higher-curvature terms
We study a gravity model where a tensionful codimension-one threebrane is embedded in a bulk with infinite transverse length. We find that 4D gravity is induced on the brane already at the classical level if we include higher-curvature (Gauss-Bonnet) terms in the bulk. Consistency conditions appear to require a negative brane tension as well as a negative coupling for the higher-curvature terms.
متن کاملA 2d Inspired 4d Theory of Gravity
Coadjoint orbits of the Virasoro and Kac-Moody algebras provide geometric actions for matter coupled to gravity and gauge fields in two dimensions. However, the Gauss' law constraints that arise from these actions are not necessarily endemic to two-dimensional topologies. Indeed the constraints associated with Yang-Mills naturally arise from the coadjoint orbit construction of the WZW model. On...
متن کاملA rudimentary theory of topological 4D gravity
A theory of topological gravity is a homotopy-theoretic representation of the Segal-Tillmann topologification of a two-category with cobordisms as morphisms. This note describes some relatively accessible examples of such a thing, suggested by the wall-crossing formulas of Donaldson theory. 1 Gravity categories A cobordism category has manifolds as objects, and cobordisms as morphisms. Such cat...
متن کاملRenormalizable 4D Quantum Gravity as A Perturbed Theory from CFT
We study the renormalizable quantum gravity formulated as a perturbed theory from conformal field theory (CFT) on the basis of conformal gravity in four dimensions. The conformal mode in the metric field is managed non-perturbatively without introducing its own coupling constant so that conformal symmetry becomes exact quantum mechanically as a part of diffeomorphism invariance. The traceless t...
متن کاملBrane-world Quantum Gravity
The Arnowitt-Deser-Misner canonical formulation of general relativity is extended to the covariant brane-world theory in arbitrary dimensions. The exclusive probing of the extra dimensions makes a substantial difference, allowing for the construction of a non-constrained canonical theory. The quantum states of the brane-world geometry are defined by the Tomonaga-Schwinger equation, whose integr...
